Is Agriculture right for me?

If you’re not the type to sit in an office all day, agriculture may be for you. Whether you want a more traditional farming job, like growing acres of crops, or prefer to work in another part of the industry like plant science labs or forestry, there’s something to suit your skills and help you develop them further.

What kind of skills do I need?

There are many types of jobs in agriculture. Whatever jobs you choose, you’ll need to be able to understand:

  • Resource management- Managing natural resources such as crops or lumber for sustainable production is important.
  • Technology- Knowing technology’s role in irrigation, pesticide-use, and improving methods and techniques of cultivation, harvest, storage and transport is key.
  • Time management & organization- With much of agriculture being dependent on the seasons, you may need to factor in things like weather conditions or logistics of transporting lumber or crops.
